kanchanaburi is the largest of the central provinces of Thailand. A province in the Central Plains, kanchanaburi is frequented by tourist who have been attracted by its long history and ancient civilizations, a location of the Bridge over the River Kwai - 'Kwai" as it is known internationnally and scene of the historic World War II. Productions of the Bridge Over the River Kwai are guilty of giving the river and bridge both the wrong spelling and mis-pronunciation. It is pronounced 'Kwai" as in the English word "Hay". The province is olso famous its natural attractions sunch as forests, mountains, caves and waterfalls.
